Remember - Take care of yourself
Our bodies know how to react when we are under stress and pressure, and they also know how to rest and replenish themselves. We need to learn to listen to our bodies and to give our bodies what they need. Sometimes caring for others is an exhausting and time consuming job. It is more than we had ever anticipated. Learn to ask for help. Whether you are a carer or you receive care, it is vital that you care and love yourself and realise how important you are and what you do. When you accept yourself exactly as you are and how you react, it is as though it is something new for you. Amazingly, you then can realise that it is up to you to relax and know that it is you who will make changes happen.
British women deficient in iron
One in four women are deficient in iron and this is one of the reasons why they can be feeling tired and are also anaemic. This is due to not eating red meat which is a rich source of iron. Other good sources are eggs, breakfast cereals, nuts, bread and pasta which are also suitable for vegetarians. To help the absorption of iron, it is important to ensure that vitamin C is also taken.
A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that women who were given a fortified cereal which contained 5mgs of iron absorbed only 4% of iron, however, when they had taken 63mgs of vitamin C or a glass or orange juice with their cereal, the absorption level went up three times.
