Do you sleep well?

So often when you are worried about something you may not be able to sleep well.

Don’t have caffeine an hour before you go to bed. Have a warm milky drink or a fruit tea.

Have a nice relaxing bath and read a book or listen to some soothing music.

Write down any of your worries on a pad and try and forget them until the next day.

Make a list of what is a priority and you may find that there could be nothing too important.

Are you drinking too much?

You could be drinking more than what is good for you.

Most people drink more than they think particularly if drinking at home or alone.

If you are drinking more than the recommended amount for either a male or a

female (see guidelines below), this can damage your health in the short

and the long term.

The guidelines for adults is as follows:

Men:
No more than 3-4 units in a day and no more than 21 units in one week

Women:
No more than 2-3 units in a day and no more than 14 units a week.

N.B.  It is recommended that there is at least 2 days a week without any alcohol.

New Year Resolutions should be sustainable

So often we make a New Year’s Resolution and before the day, week or month is up, we very rarely commit to it. So this year, make it different.

You may have chosen one resolution such as a bit more exercise or a healthier diet. Always do something that you enjoy and will be sustainable for the year ahead. The whole family could join in and make it more fun.

Do you want to reduce the amount of alcohol you drink, or just maybe stop completely?  There are a few things that you could try.  If you need to drink then use a smaller glass or a small bottle and take small sips each time. Decide what days of the week you are going to drink and stick to these days. You can keep a Drinks Diary just to find out how much you are actually drinking and how it improves over a short period of time.

Have a think about the money you could save by not drinking and what you could be doing with the money. It is good to have everything in moderation and that is often more sustainable. Think about the impact that alcohol has on your body, and if you have a break of a few days, this will help your liver especially and can also help relationships! It can also make you feel better in the mornings and by not drinking, this will help your immune system.
