HSE/CIPD has developed a tool
CIPD (The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) has launched a free stress management tool which was developed with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It is designed to help equip managers with the appropriate skills to manage stress positively and to help prevent stress in their staff.
Recent research has identified stress as a major cause of long-term sickness absence and poor management is one of the top causes of work-related stress.
The tool which is available on the CIPD website, is designed to help managers identify how their behaviour hugely impacts on the people they manage. It also provides on-line learning materials to help them improve their management style.
The tool is designed to help people become stronger and better managers who will help to reduce stress rather than adding to it.
It is very clear from research that poor management can cause stress for both staff and the manager, therefore relieving that stress will have an impact on work resulting in a more positive place and this in turn will bring benefits for staff, managers and employers.
